Let’s face it.
Your tax pro Tom has plenty of incentive to turn you in to the IRS.
When Tom provides the IRS with information that leads to a successful audit and recovery of unpaid taxes, the IRS may pay him a nice portion of the amount collected.
The award can be between 15 and 30% of the collected proceeds, provided certain conditions are met. (If the IRS uses the information but does not collect any funds, Tom doesn’t receive an award.)
Would your tax pro turn you in
for a whistleblower reward?
The answer may not be what you hope for.

Don’t commit them.
- Deliberately underreporting or omitting income
- Claiming false deductions
- Keeping two sets of books
- Making false entries in books and records
- Claiming personal expenses as business expenses; and
- Abusive tax schemes, like as employing numerous pass-through entities to conceal taxable income.
