Are you going to form a new business in 2024?
Or use an LLC to buy a rental property?
Or change your sole proprietorship to a corporation?
Then you need to know about the Corporate
Transparency Act’s new filing requirements.
Why? Because failure to file can cost you $500 a day in penalties, capped at $10,000, and can trigger criminal charges with imprisonment of up to two years!
IMPORTANT: This new federal filing is totally separate from state and local filings.
From now on, determining whether this filing is required, and completing it within the deadline, must become a routine part of forming most new corporations and LLCs.
How many new small businesses
are we talking about?
FinCEN estimates about 5 million new small businesses are formed each year that will have to comply with the CTA!
Don’t miss complying with the law or pay the price.
Two important points to remember:
- The CTA reporting begins for small businesses formed in 2024.
- If your newly formed 2024 business entity is not exempt, you must file a BOI (business owner report) with FinCEN (the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), within 90 days after the entity is formed.
